At the moment we are heading to our Workshop for Coordinators of Development Studies Programmes which kicks off today at the EADI secretariat here in Bonn. This event is the first of its kind and is meant to provide space for peer-to-peer exchange, mutual learning and exploring further collaboration. Another opportunity for peer-to-peer exchange will be the upcoming Directors’ Meeting in Cordoba for which an updated agenda is available. And registration has just opened for this year’s Research Communications Workshop on 7 and 8 November. On the occasion of the United Nations Summits on Climate Change and the SDGs we have put together the latest related publications from our members, as well as the ususal calls, vacancies and blogs.
We are happy to invite communication professionals from our member institutes as well as members of our Research Communications Working Group to this year’s Communciations Workshop. With speakers from the OECD Development Centre, the Global Development Institute (GDI), the Institut du développement durable et des relations internationales (IDDRI) and Malmö University, we hope to provide thought-provoking input for many rounds of interactive exchange. The tentative programme is available here; registration is on a first-come-first-serve basis. If you are working in communciations and would like to take part, please don’t hesistate to contact us

From our Blog: Let’s Talk about Communication
« The ability to communicate is the key to being relevant« , Anna-Pia Hudtloff, Head of Communication at the Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS) said at our Research Communications Workshop last year. As an appetizer for our upcoming get-together of communicators, this blog post summarises the discussions at last year’s event and gives you an idea why communication is an essential part of Development Studies: « When communicators are on board from early on, they can help create stories around the research and identify aspects of special interest in connection with broader conversations. » Read the post

Highlight: 10 Years to Act: Voices for a Sustainable World
As the challenges of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) represent a serious emergency, the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) presents this cross-cutting scientific booklet that gathers the voices of 11 experts in development on various topics, from water to governance through biodiversity, inequalities or entrepreneurship. We can now see the symptoms of the difficulties ahead “if nothing is done”–the unvarying incipit of repeated warnings. But soon we will wake up to find that a decade has slipped away. Will we then be ready to bear the consequences of our lack of initiative? Read more
