EADI eNewsletter #10/2 2022 | Call for Abstracts EADI/CEsA 2023 Lisbon Conference & More

2nd Issue October 2022
Editorial
Today we are very excited to announce the call for abstracts for our 2023 general conference which will take place in cooperation with the Centre for African and Development Studies (CEsA), School of Economics and Management at the University of Lisbon in Portugal. Usually being held every three years in cooperation with an EADI member, these general conferences are the place to be for the Development Studies community. And as usual we’ve also got a new blog post to share which examines the increasingly insecure and unequal nature of experimental politics. Our thematic focus is on development finance today, in addition to the regular collection of publication picks, opinions, calls and vacancies.
Call for Abstracts EADI/CEsA Lisbon Conference Open
The call for abstracts for our flaship event, the upcoming « Towards New Rhythms of Development » conference in Lisbon is now online and we are awaiting your contributions! You can choose between 36 seed panels and 16 harvest panels. The planned roundtable and workshop sessions are not included in the call. Seed panels provide a platform to present work in progress and/or innovative ideas and do not necessarily require the submission of a full paper. Harvest panels provide a space to present completed research and research findings. We and the panel convenors look forward to many inspiring contributions! Submit by 18 December 2022. Read more
New On Our Blog: The Global Lab
Political and technological experiments in the Global South « From pandemics to climate change to ever-growing humanitarian needs, humanity is making limited progress in tackling the structural causes of contemporary global crises. The result is a future of growing unknowns », writes DIIS researcher Adam Moe Fejerskov in our latest blog post: « Politics become increasingly experimental, as we struggle with unprecedented challenges and changes, leaving the fate of both planet and people to unproven technologies and uncertain policies. » In this post as well as in his latest book he explores the future of experimental politics that too often becomes one of both inequality and exclusion for vulnerable groups across the world. Open Access Book: Agroecology and Rural Development
Acting in the Global North – with and for the Global South The Global North increasingly recognises the need to take responsibility for the global ecological emergency that is emerging predominately as the result of its past and present actions. This study by the Centre for Rural Development at Humboldt University, Berlin, explores agroecology as a holistic approach for agri-food system transformation and sustainable rural development. Its aim is to contribute to a better understanding of how the Global North can translate recognition of its responsibility as a key contributor to the climate crisis, biodiversity loss, and unsustainable food systems globally into action locally. Highlight: Doctoral Days on 3 and 4 November
The Doctoral Days « Critical Perspectives on Development » at the Condorcet Campus in Aubervilliers, France, on 3 and 4 November aim to promote synergies between young researchers from social sciences. They wish to contribute to the study of policies and institutions that claim to embody and implement development, and to analyse their ideological foundations, both in the global North and South.
