We’ve also published our very first blog post in the conference series with more featured topics to come that are up for discussion in Lisbon. In case you’re interested in research practice collaboration and have missed our recent online roundtable on the topic, grab a nice hot drink and rewatch in online. And before the year comes to a close, we’ve got some interesting vacancy announcements from our network at the every bottom. Our thematic focus is on water today. |
From our Blog: Kicking off the #NewDevRhythms Series |
Radical Alternatives or Ambivalent Engagements? Development Understandings from the Global SouthThe very first post of our « Towards new Rhythms of Development » blog series calls for more nuanced views in the discourses on development understandings from the Global South: while many post-development proponents make the case for southern alternatives such as Buen Vivir, Ubunto or Swaraj, Alba Castellsagué and Sally Matthews see « several important questions arise in relation to the idea of using Global South concepts and practices to build alternatives to development ». Are Global South communities really rejecting development? Do they use alternative concepts on the ground, and if so, how? And what would be the role of researchers in articulating these alternatives? Read the postand/or submit an abstract for the related conference panel |
Video: Roundtable on Research Practice Collaboration |
The cooperation between researchers and practitioners during different stages of the research process has the potential to benefit both society and research supporting processes of transformation. In this roundtable authors from the recent commentary collection on this topic in the EJDR, discuss such collaborations from various perspective, starting with political economy. Highlight: Minimum Access to Critical Earth Systems |
Impacts of meeting minimum access on critical earth systems amidst the Great InequalityThis nature-paper led by researchers from the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research focuses on just access for the most disadvantaged to resources and services for either a dignified life beyond mere survival or an escape from poverty. It defines minimum just access levels, shows the impacts of achieving such just access levels on critical Earth systems and discusses these in the context of the Great Inequality and the implications for redistribution.
