ONGOING CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS |
20th anniversary of the Right to Food Guidelines – Call for inputs on the realization of the Human Right to Adequate Food Open until 23 June 2023Available in English, Español, Français, Русский, 中文, العربية This joint call for submissions of the FAO Right to Food Team and the Committee on World Food Security (CFS). 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Voluntary Guidelines to Support the Progressive Realization of the Right to Adequate Food in the Context of National Food Security. This call will help inform on efforts made to realize the right to adequate food at local, national, regional or global level, and provide an important stock taking opportunity for countries and their people. |
This call has already received 45 experts’ valuable contributions from Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Canada, Colombia, Congo, Ethiopia, Germany, India, Italy, Mali, Netherlands, Nigeria, Palestine, Pakistan, Peru, Romania, Russia, Rwanda, Spain, South Africa, Switzerland, Togo, Uganda, and United Kingdom. Case studies of agrifood system technologies and innovations for climate action: Call for proposals for the FAO Science and Innovation Forum 2023 Open until 23 June 2023. Available in English, Español, Français, Русский, 中文 and العربية This Call for Submissions is requested by the FAO Chief Scientist Office that invites stakeholders to share illustrative country level case studies of agrifood system technologies and innovations for climate action. The call is in the context of the upcoming FAO Science and Innovation Forum 2023 under the umbrella of the global World Food Forum. Following a review and selection of the submissions, the most impactful, innovative and relevant case studies will be showcased at SIF 2023 and participants will be invited to present them in October 2023. |

Dr Mona Chaya, Special Adviser, and Dr Preet Lidder, Technical Adviser from the FAO Chief Scientist Office, who are co-facilitators of this call expressed their gratitude to the participants: « Thank you for your valuable contributions so far. We greatly appreciate the time and effort you invested in sharing your experiences and expertise. The Call for Submissions is open until 23 June 2023 so there is still time to submit a case study. Your submission will be carefully reviewed, and the selection process will be based on specific criteria, including the focus on climate action, relevance to agrifood systems, equity, adversity, and innovativeness. Selected participants will be informed before the end of July and will be invited to present their respective case studies at the upcoming Science and Innovation Forum 2023 (funding support will be provided to facilitate participation, especially for attendees from low- and middle-income countries). We are excited to have the opportunity to showcase the most impactful, innovative, and relevant case studies at SIF 2023. » |
RECENTLY CLOSED ACTIVITIES |
Use and application of CFS policy recommendations on price volatility and food security, and social protection for food security and nutrition This Call for Submissions took place in the period from 31.01.2023 until 04.05.2023 on the request of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS). The call was available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. The CFS Secretariat encourages stakeholders to voluntarily share their experiences and good practices in applying the two sets of CFS policy recommendations on price volatility and food security, and social protection for food security and nutrition. Inputs received through reporting individual experiences or the results of multi-stakeholder consultations or events will be compiled in a document made available for delegates at the CFS 51st Plenary Session in October 2023. |
The CFS Secretariat facilitated this call that received 49 valuable contributions from experts, representing diverse public and private organizations and working in different fields of expertise. New Food System Integrated Program to support the transformation of food systems into nature-positive, resilient, and pollution-free system This consultation took place in the period from 21.03.2023 until 11.04.2023 on the request of the FAO-IFAD Program development teamand was available in English This consultation was organized in the context of the FAO-IFAD development process of the GEF Food System Integrated Program to support selected nations. The FAO-IFAD development team invited stakeholders to share their views and suggestions to the newly developed Program documents – the Theory of Change and the Draft Results Framework. The consultation was facilitated by Sameer Karki, Technical Officer of the FAO-GEF Coordination Unit. The Program will focus explicitly on sustainable, regenerative, nature positive production systems and support efficient value/supply chains covering selected food crops (maize, rice, and wheat), commercial commodities (soy, oil palm, coffee and cocoa), livestock and aquaculture. |

Strengthening urban and peri-urban food systems to achieve food security and nutrition in the context of urbanization and rural transformation This consultation took place in the period from 01.03.2023 until 16.04.2023 on the request of the High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE-FSN) Secretariat of CFS. It was available in English, French and Spanish. The consultation was organized in the context of the upcoming report of the High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE-FSN) of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS), the V0 draft of which will be further developed and the final HLPE-FSN report will be presented at the 52nd plenary session of the CFS in October 2024. This will mark the start of the policy convergence process on the theme that is fundamental for food security and nutrition by given the social and economic significance of food systems in urban and peri-urban areas, addressing the challenges of urbanization and rural transformation. |

These inputs will allow the HLPE-FSN to address the critical issues facing both policymakers and practitioners working on urban and peri-urban food systems. Given the social and economic significance of food systems in urban and peri-urban areas, addressing the challenges of urbanization and rural transformation is fundamental for food security and nutrition. We truly appreciate the time and effort you devoted to provide your comments, especially because your valuable insights are fundamental to ensuring legitimacy, scientific quality, and the incorporation of diverse forms of knowledge and expertise in the HLPE-FSN reports and recommendations.
