| 1st Issue February 2024 Editorial At the moment we very much look forward to our upcoming research communications workshop next week which is meant to be a platform for communications professionals at our member institutes to share experiences and discuss trends, tools and best practices in development research communication. Another event this month is the virtual book launch and presentation of our latest open access book « Challenging Global Development« , to which everyone is very welcome to join. One of our Working Groups has a call for papers out, and our latest blog post makes the case for embracing the notion of uncertainty in economic thinking. From our Blog Rethinking Economics for an Uncertain World: Challenges for Development « Uncertainties are everywhere, whether emerging through climate change, financial volatility, conflict or war. All too often we don’t know what the future will hold. This presents a big challenge for conventional styles of economic development », argues Ian Scoones in our latest blog. « One big lesson from the financial crash is that uncertainties in complex systems must be taken seriously. A hubristic faith in control economics, whether neoclassical or experimentalist, will quickly unravel », he writes and suggests getting back to largely ignored older economic thinkers. Read more Highlight: Half-Time for SDG Evidence Generation The Development Evidence Portal (DEP), maintained by the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie), is a database that gathers such evidence for low- and middle-income countries, in the form of impact evaluations and systematic reviews. This report analyses data from the DEP to answer the following questions: What is the state of the evidence base for the SDGs, and where are the gaps in the evidence? We provide an overview of the evidence base across the SDG agenda, followed by a series of dashboards summarising the state of the evidence for each of the 17 SDGs between 1990 and 2022.
