Editorial

Before we are heading to Paris for the event on financing African social science research and our research communications workshop, we are excited to announce the release of our second open access book this year! And, with today’s blog, we once again shed the light on the deeply entrenched power imbalances in academia regularly hampering decolonisation attempts. Our thematic focus and highlight today are both on climate change and related discourses. You can find more picks, vacancies, calls and training opportunities further below. New Open Access Book Out: Equity in Covid-19 EQUITY IN COVID-19. Mitigation and Policy Responses in Africa We are proud and happy to add a new volume to our Global Development Series!

This edited volume presents twelve African case studies that systematically reconstruct, document and analyse how national governments and other stakeholders took equity into account in their initial policy responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. The book, based on a variety of empirical data and disciplinary perspectives of research teams from across the continent, examines the inclusivity of mitigation and policy responses. Read more

Reflections on Development Studies in the Mid-2020s Browse the issue EJDR Overview Page Highlight: Climate Change, Natural Resources and Geopolitics This open access volume is aimed at fostering our understanding of the shifting environment for resource rich countries impacted by radical transformations linked to climate change, technology and geopolitics. It also explores ways in which policies can avoid a repeat of past mistakes in the management of natural resources which contributed to the coining of the phrase “resource curse’ to describe the paradox that resource dependent countries were performing poorer than others. The new boom in resources should this time serve to promote both an ethical, sustainable and inclusive development. Read more
