Themed “Development in Crisis: Reflecting on the Past, Looking to the Future,” this milestone gathering offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the association’s achievements and contributions to Development Studies while shaping the path forward.
The event will bring together leading academics, practitioners, and policymakers from around the world to discuss some of the most pressing global challenges. Over 1,5 days, we will explore themes of democratisation, geopolitical conflicts, and the environmental and social challenges reshaping the development landscape.

Thursday, 22 May 2025
– A keynote address by a distinguished speaker, setting the stage for forward-looking conversations.
– Session I: Roundtable “From Worldwide Democratization to Democratic Recession and Geopolitical Conflicts” will address the evolving dynamics of democracy and development.
– Session II: Parallel panels will delve into topics such as “The New South,” interconnections between environmental and political challenges, and civil society’s role in fostering equity.
– Evening Reception: A warm welcome at the historic Old Town Hall of Bonn, hosted by the city’s Mayor, offering a chance to network in a festive setting.
Friday, 23 May 2025
– Session III: A roundtable reflecting on the future of Development Studies, exploring transformative frameworks, universality, and decolonisation.
– EADI Information Session: Insights into the association’s outlook for 2025–2026.
The Jubilee Event is not only a celebration but also an opportunity to renew our commitment to critical debate, impactful research, and equitable global partnerships.
