To celebrate its 20th anniversary, IDDRI organizes a major international conference Planetary governance for a sustainable recovery: Next generation multilateralism
12, 13, 14 October 2021 Online #IDDRINextGenThe Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted and exacerbated the long-standing challenges that global governance and international cooperation face. It has become clear that our international institutions are not sufficient to deal with these global challenges. A key overarching geopolitical issue is our common global environment, whether we are talking about climate change, the loss of biodiversity, or helping developing countries to provide comfort to their populations’ needs in ways that are more in harmony with planetary limits. Thinkers, intellectuals and politicians, from around the world, are putting ideas on the table to renew multilateralism. We must hear these voices from Northern, Eastern, Western and Southern countries. To provide an intellectual and pragmatic basis for analyzing the strategies and opportunities for renewing multilateralism focused around sustainable development, IDDRI’s conference programme enables exchanges between Africa, Europe, and Asia and the Pacific in the morning, and with the Americas in the day.
IDDRI is also very pleased to have The Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA) of Sciences Po Paris as its main partner for this event.
Among 50 invited high-level speakers, several renowned voices are already joining that of IDDRI in this invitation, including: Alicia Barcena (Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean – CEPAL) Laurence Bertrand Dorléac (Director, Sciences Po, France) Sharan Burrow (International Trade Union Confederation) Pierre Charbonnier (Sciences Po, France) Dan Esty (Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy, USA) Alice Hill (Council on Foreign Relations, think tank, USA) Amrita Narlikar (German Institute for Global and Area Studies – GIGA, Hamburg, Germany) Asa Persson (Stockholm Environment Institute – SEI, think tank, Sweden) Olivier de Schutter (UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights) Yukari Takamura (Institute for Future Initiatives, University of Tokyo, Japan) Nathalie Tocci (Istituto Affari Internazionali – IAI, think tank, Italy) A detailed programme and practical information, as well as the opening of registration, will follow in September.
