| 3rd Issue September 2021 Editorial Once again we are happy to invite you to a roundtable discussion based on a special issue of our journal, the EJDR: on 5 October members of the Gender and Adolescence: Global Evidence Network (GAGE) will share their insights on « Understanding adolescent vulnerabilities in LMICs through an intersectional lens« . We’ve also got two new articles on our blog, both inspired by our recent #Solidarity2021 conference: The first discusses howrisk-dumping in field research could best be avoided, and the second one has summarised eight useful tips for more engaged scholarship. Apart from that, we recommend two publication highlights from the last two weeks, and have collected the regular bunch of vacancies, online events, calls and opinion pieces. Today’s thematic focus is on food. From our Blog: Risk Dumping in Field Research Risk dumping in field research: some researchers are safer than others Local researchers and junior or PhD researchers from the North are being « systematically and disproportionately exposed to safety and security issues linked to field research » write Rodrigo Mena and Linda Johnson in our Solidarity, Peace and Social Justice blog series. « Moreover, universities feel compelled to protect themselves from liability, but not their researchers from harm ». The issue explores adolescent experiences across diverse LMICs, including conflict-affected contexts, drawing on unique mixed-methods data from a GAGE longitudinal study. The event will highlight why an intersectional approach is critical to capture adolescents’ diverse and dynamic capabilities, and what the policy and programming implications are to ensure no adolescent is left behind. It helps to understand the underlying drivers that push disadvantaged communities into slavery, identify risky migration pathways that lead to exploitative work situations, as well as gaps in existing climate and development policies that leave communities facing climate crises exposed to slavery. Read more and download the toolkit Highlight: Development Cooperation: Past, Present & Future Origins, evolution and future of global development cooperation: the role of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC): Since its foundation in 1961, the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) – nerve centre of the aid effort of the “rich” countries – has played a central role in the post-war aid system. This book traces the history of the institution and reflects on its future. How intense diplomacy led to the creation of the OECD itself and the DAC is disclosed here for the first time.
