Welcome to the fortnightly newsletter of the European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes (EADI). |
2nd Issue February 2022 Editorial On a day like this it feels weird to send out a « regular » newsletter. Putin’s aggression has left us speechless, and our hearts and solidarity are with the people in Ukraine. Despite these worrying news, we are pleased to announce that we have partnered up with the Swedish Development Research Network (SweDev), to become involved in many interesting activities taking place in Sweden, and, in turn, help connect institutes and researchers from Sweden with our wider European community. And we are looking for a new colleague at the EADI secretariat! If you have a background in global development and are into information and outreach, this one might be for you! Our thematic focus is on urban development today. For everything else, please take a scroll. From our Blog: Africa’s Relations with EuropeAfrica’s relations with the EU: a reset is possible if Europe changes its attitude »The persistent power inequalities do not bode well for supposed change » write the authors of our latest blog post: « This is why the latest summit presents an urgent opportunity for the EU to convince African decision makers that – this time – the desire for change can be followed through by action. The EU of course must agree with the idea that African priorities matter and that they can be mutually beneficial for Africans and Europeans if given a chance. Read the postTo the blog overview |

Highlight: Empowerment in Challenging Contexts |
Against the Odds: Action for Empowerment and Accountability in Challenging ContextsHow and under what conditions does citizen-led social and political action contribute to empowerment and accountability? What are the strategies used, and with what outcomes, especially in settings which are democratically weak, politically fragile and affected by legacies of violence and conflict? The A4EA programme at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) has explored these questions in Mozambique, Myanmar, Nigeria and Pakistan. Read more |
