| 1st Issue May 2022 Editorial Today we are more than happy to announce the first episode of our podcast-series « Hierarchies of Development » which is a joint initiative between us, King’s College Londonand the Developing Economics blog. If you’re an early career researcher, you might be interested in the upcoming online-session of our journal, the EJDR, which is actively supporting young researchers with the paper submission process. And finally we’d like to remind you to register for our distinguished guest lecture by Sally Matthews from Rhodes University next Tuesday who will explore alternatives to development. As thematic focus, we’ve got some background and analyses of the ongoing war in Ukraine, apart from publication picks and open calls, vacancies and training opportunities.Podcast Launch: Episode « Environmental Hierarchies » Finally it is out! our very first podast in which Leon Sealey-Huggins and Tejal Kanitkar talk to hosts Ingrid Harvold Kvangraven and our colleague Basile Boulay about climate change and environmental hierarchies. The « Hierarchies of Development » podcast series offers long format interviews focusing on enduring global inequalities. Conversations focus on contemporary research projects by critical scholars from across the world that help us understand how and why structural hierarchies persist. | Five rules for climate adaptation in fragile and conflict-affected situations »We urgently need to step up investment in climate adaptation interventions, which aim to adjust social systems and structures to reduce their vulnerability to climate change » writes Elise Remling. « However, in doing so we also need to recognize that interventions that make one community or area more resilient can make others even more vulnerable and insecure, and in some cases increase the risks of conflict. Researchers still often neglect such ‘maladaptive’ outcomes; practitioners even more so. | Producing publishable research requires understanding a journal’s peer-review and publication process, as well as the requirements for the preparation of papers to abide by its standards in terms of content and form. EJDR’s Early Career Researcher initiative has been designed to assist with the understanding of the journal peer-review and publication process. Authors whose manuscripts are eligible for the Early Career Researcher initiative will benefit from initial internal feedback on the manuscript to ensure the paper is strong. | Ghent Institute for International and European Studies (GIES): Taken aback by the violent intervention launched by the Russian authorities in Ukraine, the researchers of the Ghent Institute for International and European Studies aim to shine a light on the crisis with a new initiative: the GIES occasional paper. Starting from Monday March 21st 2022, contributions that present the analyses of our researchers on the Ukraine War were published on a daily basis.
