From Our Blog: Sustainable Energy & InequalitySecuring sufficient, sustainable energy for all needs a massive reduction in global inequalityIn our latest blog post Joel Millward Hopkins from the Sustainability Research Institute in Leeds summarizes the outcomes of a new research around a key sustainable development question: « How much global inequality is permissible in a future that both avoids dangerous levels of climate change, and provides decent material living standards for all? » Unsurprisingly, the synthesis of three different strands of research calls for considerable reductions in global inequality and raises the question whether our current economic system is capable of such unprecedented change. Read more Highlight: Reimagining Civil Society CollaborationsAt a time when uneven power dynamics are high on development actors’ agenda, this open access book is an important contribution to researchers and practitioners working on innovation in development and civil society. While there is much discussion of localization, decolonization and ‘shifting power’ in civil society collaborations in development, the debate thus far centres on the aid system. This book directs attention to CSOs as drivers of development in various contexts that we refer to as the Global South. This book takes a transformative stance, reimagining roles, relations and processes. Read more Highlight: Governing the Interlinkages Between the SDGsThis open access book identifies the institutional processes, governance mechanisms and policy mixes that are conducive to devising strategies of integrated Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) implementation. Edited by researchers from the German Institute of Development and Sustainability, it examines the dedicated policies targeting the SDGs, as well as political and institutional drivers of synergies and trade-offs between the SDGs in selected key areas – both cross-nationally and in specific country contexts. Their analysis moves beyond the focus on links between SDG indicators and targets.
