July 15th :World Youth Skills Day AFD & ILO reaffirm their commitment to young people training & employment opportunities in Africa In the current post-Covid-19 context and global economic crisis, young people, particularly in Africa, are facing increasing difficulties in training and access to employment. To address this urgent need, the ARPEJ initiative launched in 2019 by the AFD and the International Labour Organization (ILO). In Congo, this work was complemented by a representative employment survey for young people with the aim to inform about the transition to the labour market of Congolese youth and to update the employment data that dated from 2015. Evidence from Rural Ethiopia Development actors are always seeking reliable and cost-effective methods to assess the impact of their programmes. To evaluate programmes for which no pre-intervention data are available evaluators often rely on retrospective survey questions to reconstruct the baseline situation. This article explores the accuracy of such retrospective survey data, using data from two surveys among women in rural Ethiopia. Read the article Latest Publications The Commons Drivers of Change and Opportunities for Africa The Commons, co-published by AFD and the World Bank, explores the many forms of development being championed by Africa’s residents, users, and citizens. The purpose of this book is to examine the tensions, drivers of change, and opportunities that surround commons dynamics in Africa. This book highlights the abundance of commons-based entrepreneurial processes in Sub-Saharan Africa and shows that partnerships between African public authorities and communities involved in the commons can be powerful drivers of sustainable development for the continent.
