Editorial
While the eyes of our community are on COP28 in Dubai these days, we’ve chosen just transition as thematic focus this time. And before the year is coming to a close, we’ve got two new blog posts for you: Werner Raza calls for a new solidarity-based trade policy, and Léna Prouchet summarises some indigenous perspectives on entrepreneurship-focused development programmes. We’re happy to invite you to two new EADI Working Groups, and look forward to the new MOOC on essentials in Development Studies
From our Blog:
Embrace or Reject? Decoding Indigenous Perspectives on Development Programmes This blog post, based on field work in the Peruvian Amazon, reveals a nuanced perspective on the relationship between local communities and “entrepreneurship for development” projects. It shows how locals leverage projects to access new resources that fulfil basic needs and achieve aspirations for a better lifestyle, while still giving importance to some aspects of their traditional lifestyle. A Trade Policy for the Future: neither Neoliberal nor Geopolitical, but based on Solidarity! In this post, OEFSE Director Werner Raza identifies three paradoxes of hyperglobalisation which he considers essential for understanding and shaping future trade policy: « European trade policy is challenged to find new forms of international cooperation that consciously distance themselves from the geopoliticisation of trade policy. These must be based on solidarity and enable our trading partners to meet on an equal footing. In particular, this means accommodating their interests and needs to a significantly higher degree than in the past. » Read the post To the blog overview
Two New EADI Working Groups We’re pleased to announce two newly established working groups:
Global Crises and Development will focus on a set of questions related to the ‘global crises’ or poly-/perma- crisis of development.
The Politics and Political Economy of Economic Transformation centres around understanding and studying related processes beyond economics to consider the politics of economic transformation.
To the working group overview EnerSHelF at COP28 We’re proud that the EnerSHelF Project we were involved in is being presented at COP28 currently underway in Dubai. « The energy supply for healthcare facilities links two of the UN`s 17 development goals. This so-called nexus of health and energy also makes our project interesting for similar projects in other countries », said project co-lead Katja Bender. The interdisciplinary research project looked into best ways to provide healthcare-facilities in Ghana with renewable energy. Read more

This open access book interrogates the narratives and strategies that frame climate change and examines the institutionalised responses in agrarian settings.
