Le concours et l’exposition de photographies de l’Institut Interdisciplinaire d’Anthropologie du Contemporain

Vous êtes doctorant, étudiant en sciences sociales ou photographe en formation ?
Participez à la deuxième édition du concours de photographies PhotoiiAC, organisé par les doctorants de l’Institut Interdisciplinaire d’Anthropologie du Contemporain (IIAC – UMR 8177 CNRS/EHESS). En écho à la thématique des journées doctorales 2013 du laboratoire, ce concours vous propose cette année de « Refaire le(s) monde(s) » en explorant les espaces et les temps du contemporain, qui sont envisagés comme clés d’accès à la contemporanéité en vertu de leur potentiel heuristique et descriptif. Les synergies entre les deux évènements nous permettent de réfléchir, d’une manière critique et réflexive, aux objets, aux méthodes et aux postures du chercheur et du photographe. En continuité avec la première édition de PhotoiiAC, notre concours-exposition souhaite accorder une place centrale à la dimension heuristique de la pratique photographique.

Dans un esprit novateur et fédérateur, la vocation de ce concours biennal est de créer un espace d’interaction inédit entre les mondes de la recherche et de la photographie. C’est aussi l’occasion d’envisager par l’image, la thématique des journées doctorales analysée par écrit et via des présentations orales. Dans cet esprit, des tables-rondes thématiques sont intégrées à la programmation, plus classique, des journées doctorales.

Face à la complexité des mondes contemporains et leurs multiples facettes spatio-temporelles, en quoi l’approche photographique peut-elle aider le chercheur dans son processus de compréhension et de restitution des réalités sociales, tant sur le plan épistémologique que méthodologique ? En quoi la photographie – en tant que procédé d’enregistrement du visible – peut-elle apporter un éclairage nouveau sur des réalités ethnographiques et de l’élargissement des compétences du chercheur ? Comment la posture de photographe change-t-elle la relation avec les enquêtés ? Inversement, comment le photographe mobilise-t-il de manière originale les outils ethnographiques pour rendre compte, au plus près, de l’objet qu’il capture ?

Si la recherche en sciences sociales a longtemps été méfiante vis-à-vis du recours à l’image dans la compréhension des réalités sociales, elle a sensiblement évolué depuis une vingtaine d’années, en interrogeant la manière dont le chercheur peut transposer la photographie dans une perspective de production de sens. Voilà la réflexion au cœur de ce concours : reprenant la question du sociologue Sylvain Maresca (1996), en quoi la photographie peut-elle devenir le « miroir des sciences sociales » ?

Un jury prestigieux et des prix à la clé !
Après le sociologue américain Howard Becker, parrain du concours pour sa première édition en 2011, cette année la place est donnée au photographe italien de renommée internationale Franco Zecchin. Il est également le président du jury qui réunit des photographes de renom dont l’approche photographique entretient une relation inextricable avec les sciences sociales – Valérie Jouve et Marc Pataut – ainsi que des chercheurs de l’IIAC qui envisagent l’image comme objet ou comme outil d’enquête : Sophie Brones, Lynda Dematteo, André Gunthert, Jean-Christophe Monferran, Caterina Pasqualino, Boris Pétric et Monique Peyrière. Ils sélectionneront les trois lauréats du concours, ainsi que les participants dont les clichés seront soumis au vote du public pendant l’exposition. Le choix se fera selon des critères d’originalité et de traitement du sujet, de respect de la thématique et de qualité technique. En décembre 2013, les photographies gagnantes seront exposées sous les verrières de l’atrium du bâtiment Le France, siège de l’École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales et de la Maison des Sciences de l’Homme, à Paris.

Call for Contributions: Economics and Minorities in Africa in the Post-Colonial Age: Institutional, Historical and Socio-Economic Factors*

This call for contributions on “Economics and Minorities in Africa in the Post-Colonial Age” has been announced by the CSAS – Centre for African
Studies in Sardinia (Italy) – for the next book of its special series on “Minorities in Africa”, titled *Nova Collectanea Africana*. The call is
aimed at selecting articles proposals on the economic conditions under which today’s minority groups live in Northern and Sub-Saharan Africa.

The term ‘minorities’ should be interpreted widely in order to include ethnic, religious, linguistic, sexual, social, cultural, economic and
political minorities, that can be historically disadvantaged or advantaged.

All the African states have consistent minorities residing within their territory. Modern democracies have been trying to organize their
institutional framework in order to ensure participation to the life of minorities, both those that are indigenous to the region, and others that
are beginning to articulate their minority identities in response to shifting political, social and especially economic contexts.

The 2013 issue of *Nova Collectanea Africana* aims to continue to investigate minorities in the African state in a broader perspective, not
just focusing on exclusion or discrimination. Particular focus has been given to economic factors which have changed or given rise to various
“minorities,” taking into account how minorities navigate the economic structures of their countries and regions and how they are affected by the
post-colonial legacy. The prospects for minority communities to contribute to the wider process of economic change in the region is another possible
topic. Contributions should be focused on how the economic status of these minority groups transform over the years, how they participate in the
economic processes in their countries.**

*Eligible topics for the special issue*

Papers can address theoretical or empirical issues related to œEconomics and Minorities in Africa in the Post-Colonial Age”, including case studies.
A non-exhaustive list of topics include the following issues:

– The Status of Minority Groups in the Economics.

· Economic Cohesion of Societies and Regimes in North and
Sub-Saharan Africa.

Appel à communication : La jeunesse en tant qu’objet politique identifiable

Résumé

Dans ce panel intitulé « La jeunesse en tant qu’objet politique identifiable : mobilisations, participation et dispositifs de représentation politique des jeunes », il s’agit de réunir des études de cas afin de discuter des raisons et des modalités d’une part, de l’engagement et de la continuité de la participation des jeunes dans des actions collectives ou au sein des dispositifs institutionnels de représentation politique et sociale et de l’autre, des mises en sommeil et des renoncements de cette catégorie de la population à la participation.

Bourses de la Fondation pour les sciences sociales

La « Fondation pour les sciences sociales » offre cette année 12 bourses « d’appui à la recherche » sur le thème « Ville et logement : dynamique
des inégalités spatiales et politiques publiques ». Le dossier n’est pas lourd à remplir, il faut avoir un projet d’article (mais ça doit
être sur ce thème).

La ville mêle de façon paradoxale l’urbanité et la ségrégation, l’ouverture et l’entre-soi. De multiples dynamiques la travaillent :
loi du marché foncier, tendances à la spéciali sation des quartiers, réseaux de solidarité, effets de voisinage, agrégation des préférences
et des évitements individuels, retombées asymétriques de la mixité sociale, décohabitation croissante des individus, effets durables des
politiques anciennes d’équipement, comportements de stigmatisation et de discrimination, mais aussi mobilité résidentielle liée au cycle de
vie… Un premier objectif de l’appel à propositions est de mieux saisir l’effet de ces mécanismes sur la formation et l’évolution des
inégalités spatiales.

Face à ces inégalités, l’action publique a multiplié les programmes : logement social, rénovation urbaine, réseaux de transports, politique
de maintien à domicile, coopération inter communale, zones d’éducation prioritaire, zones franches urbaines, droit au logement opposable,
projets de péréquation territoriale, traitement territorial des inégalités ethniques… Mais tout cela avec quelle cohérence et quel
succès ? Par quelles méthodes évaluer ces politiques ? Et d’abord, comment les qualifier ? Sont-elles en prise avec la dynamique complexe
des inégalités ?

À quoi s’ajoutent deux questions : dans quelle mesure les méthodes d’action utilisées en France pourraient-elles s’inspirer des
expériences étrangères, et en quoi la crise économique actuelle modifie-t-elle la donne ?

La Fondation pour les sciences sociales met en place douze bourses d’appui de 2500 euros chacune pour les auteurs d’un article inédit
dans ce domaine de recherche.

Toutes les sciences sociales sont a priori concernées : économie, sociologie, histoire, géographie, études urbaines, science politique,
droit, philosophie politique…

Les bourses s’adressent aux chercheurs ou enseignants-chercheurs en début ou milieu de carrière. Sont éligibles les personnes de toute
nationalité et tout statut, rattachées à des institutions de recherche françaises (même si elles exercent à l’étranger), ayant moins de 50 ans (nées après le 30 septembre 1963) et titulaires d’une thèse soutenue depuis deux ans au moins (avant le 31 octobre 2011).

Nourries de données, menées selon des méthodes innovantes, les contributions devront être publiables dans des revues scientifiques.
Parallèlement, une version destinée à un plus large public sera présentée à l’automne 2014 lors de la « Journée des sciences sociales
», avec l’appui éditorial de la Fondation. L’événement sera précédé de plusieurs réunions, où les lauréats seront invités à discuter leur
projet d’article et à se former à la prise de parole.

Objective: The principal objective of this course is to review and question the underlying assumptions on social change that inform the current paradigms within development discourses on women, energy and health. Who may apply?

The interdisciplinary nature of the course will appeal to doctoral students from a variety of backgrounds, such as anthropology, sociology, geography, political science, medical science, public health, gender studies, development studies, engineering, economics and area studies. While doctoral students will be prioritised, a few places may be available for well-qualified researchers, practitioners and final year masters students.
