Destiné aux docteurs franciliens, ce séminaire leur permet d’envisager des alternatives pour leur carrière et d’accroître l’efficacité de leur communication. Il est construit autour d’ateliers pratiques et de rencontres avec des professionnels (DRH, recruteurs, spécialistes du réseau…)

We welcome paper proposals for the panel ‘Overcoming Neoliberal Subjectivities in Latin America: From Disengagement to New Political Practices, Identities and Collectivities’ (Panel 35)

This panel explores the emergence of new political subjectivities in contexts of intense neoliberalisation. We invite papers that discuss how neoliberal subjectivities and circumvention of state institutions have been replaced by new subjectivities and forms of political action.

Abstract:

In the last few decades, many Latin American countries have experienced a deregulation of markets, a rolling-back and remaking of the state, and an extension of the market into ever more spheres of everyday life. With the intensification of neoliberalism in some Latin American regions, actors from the socio-economic margins saw their hopes to become integrated into the formal economy and overcome their economic insecurity truncated. Instead, these actors experienced the pressures of a process of ‘making neoliberal selves,’ through which they were called upon to become risk-taking entrepreneurs who took on responsibility for their lives.

In this context, a shift took place from collective to ever more individualised forms of identity and political subjectivities, which effectively resulted in a fragmentation of existing collectivities. Where a process of neoliberalisation has coincided with corrupt state authorities, a flawed judiciary or overlapping criminal and political networks (narco-states), individuals have withdrawn from exercising their citizenship rights. Likewise, where state responsiveness to people’s concerns is low, we have seen increasing disaffection vis-à-vis government, and in turn the abandonment of political participation.

Our panel seeks to explore examples in which atomised subjectivity has been overcome and individuals who had formerly circumvented the state have begun to engage anew in political action or have forged new political subjectivities. We would like to bring to the fore forms of citizenship and ‘informal politics’ (Day 2008) that have remained outside of political analysis or have been negatively represented because they do not match normative expectations of political behaviour.

This panel explores how public heritage intersects with national identities in Latin America. Substantive literature discusses whether public memorialisation of past facts is to be seen as a neo-colonial tool through which the state and/or international bodies such as UNESCO discipline, normalise and objectify memory, with the risk of hiding alternative histories. Other literature, instead, looks at the de-colonial potential of public memory, highlighting the way by which certain groups make their history visible through heritage, and contest official narratives of the nation. That said, little research concretely explores the ways in which public heritage is used to shape and/or question national identity in Latin America. In Peru, official food heritage is shaping a ‘modern’ image of national identity at home and abroad, by selecting certain native ingredients and marginalising others. In Brazil, recent public use of slave memory reflects some changes in Brazilian national identity and challenges its traditional view as a ‘mixed-race’ society.

We look for abstracts that address intersections of heritage and national identity across the region, in order to trace similarities and differences. Welcome, for instance, will be papers dealing with relations between national identity and memorialisation of dictatorship crimes, papers dealing with the way the nation is represented in national feasts, music and literature, cinema, national brand advertising, representations of the nation in money notes, stamps, and so on.

Journée d’étude de l’École Doctorale 122 « Europe latine -Amérique latine » Université Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris 3

Cette journée d’étude de l’ED122 se propose de travailler sur les relectures cinématographiques des traumatismes de l’histoire contemporaine par des réalisateurs italiens en premier lieu puisque c’est de l’observation du cinéma italien des années 2000 et de son renouveau que naît le projet mais aussi par des cinéastes latins, c’est-à-dire espagnols, portugais ou encore des différents pays d’Amérique latine. Par ailleurs, et dans la volonté de croiser des approches et des regards différents, nous envisageons de poursuivre cette journée d’étude par la projection, en avant-première, d’un film en rapport direct avec notre thème. Notre choix s’est pour l’instant porté sur Diaz de Daniele Vicari dont la sortie est prévue au printemps 2013, sous réserve de la disponibilité d’une copie le 26 janvier. Cette projection dans le cadre de la promotion du cinéma italien contemporain par l’association Anteprima, avec la collaboration du cinéma du Panthéon, pourra donner lieu à un débat autour de cette œuvre.

Ces dernières années le cinéma italien s’est penché de façon récurrente sur son passé proche, politique et social ; au travers de films plus ou moins engagés, il s’est posé en témoin et relais privilégié des événements traumatiques de son histoire contemporaine (1970/2010). Il s’agira alors de s’interroger sur la façon dont le cinéma, qu’il soit italien, hispanique ou lusophone, traite de son histoire contemporaine immédiate, et d’observer de quelle manière cet ancrage dans la réalité nous renseigne sur l’évolution d’un pays et de ses mœurs, sur l’évolution des mentalités en même temps qu’il permet d’en apaiser les traumatismes ou d’en tirer des enseignements. De la fiction en tant que recréation ou reconstruction, du réel au documentaire comme traitement d’une réalité entre objectivité et subjectivité, du cinéma d’auteur au cinéma grand public, sans oublier le docu-fiction, genre hybride où le réel est reconstitué, mis en scène et interprété, il conviendra d’étudier comment le cinéma s’inscrit dans une démarche d’analyse et de dépassement du fait historique, en posant des questions et en fournissant parfois des éléments de réponse.

Entre témoignage, simulacre ou falsification du réel, comment dire mais aussi et surtout comment donner à voir l’Histoire et interpréter le réel ? Quelles sont les visées du traitement de l’événement historique traumatique par le cinéma, lequel s’inspire parfois également de la littérature ou du moins d’un texte écrit ?

La journée d’étude se tiendra à Paris le 25 janvier 2013. Elle concerne les doctorants de la Sorbonne Nouvelle, mais aussi ceux d’autres universités, tous les enseignants-chercheurs et chercheurs intéressés par le sujet. Les travaux présentés donneront lieu à une publication en ligne.
