Relations diplomatiques colombo-brésiliennes, 1821-1831.

Diplomatic relations between colombia and brazil, 1821-1831.
This research work focuses on the first period of official relations between the Republic of Colombia and the Empire of Brazil. The origin of the Colombo-Brazilian relations results from hemispheric matters related to the rise of a system of States in South America during the 1820s. Whereas between 1821 and 1826, indirect rapprochements took place – which included meetings between members of legations from both countries in European capitals and in the U.S., as well as an exchange of correspondence between representatives of the Colombian and the Brazilian authorities in Upper Peru – between 1826 and 1831, with the two countries exchanging diplomatic agents, the possibility of creating a political alliance which would guarantee their internal security was in sight. During that second period, the first interstate wars broke out in South America in which, Brazil and Colombia’s acting as belligerent parties, happened to be genuine diplomatic schools for all the new governments in the area.
