The Inter-American Development Bank, the largest source of financing for development in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), wishes to interview Ph.D.-level economists to work in the Research Department (RES) or other areas.
IDB economists publish regularly in refereed academic journals and pursue policy-oriented analytical work that informs the Bank and policy makers in the region regarding development challenges and appropriate policy responses and improves the effectiveness and relevance of the Bank’s operations in its member countries. This posting may be at a more senior or at a more junior level. More senior members of the department are expected to lead complex research projects, play a pro-active role in interdepartmental initiatives and disseminate research in academic and senior policy circles.
Qualifications:
Education: Ph.D. in Economics (completed at the time of appointment) from an internationally accredited university. Ph.D. programs in Political Science from programs with strong quantitative focus will also be considered.
Experience: At least 5 years of relevant experience. We expect the successful candidate to possess: (1) strong technical skills; (2) a record of —or good prospects for— high-quality original research in peer-reviewed journals; and (3) the ability to communicate technical knowledge and expertise to a wide range of potential audiences; (4) research or policy experience. Preference will be given to candidates who combine a strong academic profile with an interest in policy and who have worked on topics relevant to development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Languages: Proficiency in English and Spanish. Fluency in Portuguese is specially desired.
Areas of interest: We particularly seek research economists specializing in Public Economics although candidates with experience in International Macroeconomics, Environmental Economics, Industrial Organization as well as other areas may also apply.
