The University of the Witwatersrand is one of the leading Universities in South Africa and is currently investing substantially in new research initiatives. Funding for onepostdoctoral research fellowship is available at the Department of International Relations. The fellowship will be granted for a period of two years, with renewal after one year based on performance and progress. We are looking for a candidate with experience in security studies in Africa, supporting the development of a new research project on the « security development nexus ». Particularly expertise in peacekeeping and peace building is advantageous. Familiarity with the main actors in the field such as the UN, AU and EU is expected. The postdoc will conduct research in coordination with the departmental host but will also be given the opportunity to conduct his/her own research.

Minimum requirements:
1.PhD obtained within the last 5 years
2.Evidence of expertise in security studies in Africa
3.Evidence of research excellence and innovation
4.Familiarity with research methodology (qualitative/quantitative)

Duties and Expectations:
1.Undertake focused and high quality research;
2.Undertake other activities related to the academic programme and the professional development of the individual;
3.Assisting in acquisition of additional external funding
4.If offered the position residence in Johannesburg
